Biofeedback & Neurofeedback
Biofeedback
- A specific treatment that increases your control over certain bodily functions, such as heart rate, to alter your physiology, and in turn, your emotions. This mind-body technique allows you to control your automatic body processes to switch yourself from a “fight or flight” state of the nervous system to a regenerative state. Biofeedback has also been used by sports trainers for many decades.
Neurofeedback
- A specific form of biofeedback that measures brain wave activity and increases brain regulation. Changes in behavior can change the brain; changes in the brain can impact behavior. The goal of neurofeedback is to use behavior to change the brain. Through neurofeedback, you get information about how certain parts of your brain are functioning, allowing you to “reprogram” how your brain works. For example, researchers suggest that people with ADHD have an imbalance of certain types of brain activity. Neurofeedback claims to correct this difference by training people with ADHD to use their brains differently.
